Friends of Hickory

Friends of Hickory

To craft a city’s future, you have to understand its past and appreciate its possibilities. When Dr. Adrian Holtzman and his wife, Allison, moved to Hickory in 2007, they found a community with a lot of potential – yet one that was still reeling from the loss of manufacturing in the area. The Holtzmans founded Friends of Hickory – a group of residents passionate about their city – to help Hickory find its new identity, and to expand on its best assets. Already the Friends have worked with the city to develop a downtown park, with areas for learning and exploration, scheduled to open this year. Visit their website to learn more.(Featured in the June 2016 issue of Our State Magazine)

Through Healing Eyes

Katheryn Harlan, wife of former Catawba Radiology President Steve D Harlan, MD, FACR, founded the local nonprofit organization Through Healing Eyes. Because of her, our local breast cancer community is stronger and detecting more breast cancers at early stages. Katheryn used her personal experience as a catalyst for change in our community, touching so many lives that rarely a day goes by when she doesn’t receive a “thank you” from someone who has benefited from her generosity and personal concern.
