Catawba Radiological Associates add a new member to its team.

Catawba Radiological Associates, Inc. expands its professional staff with the addition of its newest radiologist, Dr. Matthew Dyson. A graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine Chapel Hill, Dr. Dyson completed his residency and earned a Fellowship in Breast Imaging while attending at the University of North Carolina Hospital Department of Radiology.

Dr Dyson is a native of Alexander County, NC and looks forward to providing quality radiological services to his home town and surrounding communities. Please join us as we welcome aboard Dr Dyson and his family.

Radiologist Dr. William T. Thorwarth Receives Gold Medal.

Hickory, NC- William T. Thorwarth, Jr., MD, FACR of Hickory, NC, received the American College of Radiology Gold Medal for distinguished service during the College’s 87th Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. on May 16, 2010.
A 1975 graduate with honors of Dartmouth Medical School, Dr. Thorwarth has been in practice with Catawba Radiological Associates, Inc. in Hickory since 1984. He has privileges at Catawba Valley Medical Center, Frye Regional Medical Center, Caldwell Memorial Hospital and is serving on many committees at all three facilities.

Dr. Thorwarth was named an ACR Fellow in 1994, and has served the College in a variety of positions - as a member of the Board of Chancellors and numerous other committees as well as being elected ACR president in 2003. In addition, he has held several leadership positions within the North Carolina chapter of the ACR, including a term as president in 1990.
Dr. Thorwarth is active in a number of national and state radiological organizations, including the Radiological Society of North America, the American Medical Association, the North Carolina Medical Society and the Catawba County Medical Society.

He became the first Radiologist to serve as a chair for the AMA Current Procedural Terminology Editorial Panel in 2007, and was recently reappointed to another term. Dr. Thorwarth is an expert when it comes to radiology coding, nomenclature and the physician reimbursement relative value scale. Dr. Thorwarth has had involvement in funding research and education, in addition to being a member on the ACR Foundation Funding Group.

Among his many awards, he has received the Silver Medal Award from the North Carolina Radiological Society and honorary membership in the American Society for Radiation Oncology. The ACR created the William T. Thorwarth JR., M.D., Award and named him as the first recipient in 2004.

The ACR is a national non-profit association serving more than 32,000 radiologists, radiation oncologists, interventional radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of radiology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.

Catawba Radiological Associates, Inc., established in 1950, gives patients and referring doctors high quality care.
